Get a clearer view of the taxes you pay.

The Total Tax Insights calculator makes it easier to learn something every taxpayer should know: what you’re paying in taxes. The approximate figure of your tax bill generated with more than 20 taxes to consider may surprise you. But it also may help you think differently about a lot of things – from where to live and what kind of car to drive to whether you should change jobs or shop differently. It’s great information to have as you work toward better tax and financial planning and decision-making.

To get started:

  • Click on the state or jurisdiction where you live.
  • Enter, at a minimum, the county and/or city where you live, your marital status, federal “adjusted gross income” and number of dependents. It’s okay to use your best estimates; you can also click the Recalculate button on the results page any time to go back and make changes to the data. Visit the Getting Started page to see the additional information you can enter to get a more comprehensive estimate.
  • And if you are interested in seeing how your total estimated tax liability compares to other locations around the country, you can choose up to two more places of residence for a side-by-side comparison.

That’s all there is to it. And don’t worry. Your data isn’t stored or saved electronically; it is erased when you leave the system or when you click the Clear Data button on the results page.
